Videos and podcasts on Apple Watch during workouts
Updated 23 October 2026
Leave the phone in the locker. With a standalone player, your Apple Watch and AirPods are enough for a podcast-style video on a run or a set list at the gym.
What you need
- A connection away from your phone. A cellular Apple Watch for runs and rides outside, or a Wi-Fi network your watch has joined at the gym.
- Bluetooth headphones paired with the watch. How to connect them.
- watchOS 10 or later and TubeWrist.
Set up before you start
- Turn on Audio Only in Settings ▸ Playback. Most workout listening doesn't need the picture, and audio-only uses less data and battery.
- Queue a few videos with the Queue button under the player, so you don't stop mid-set to search. More on the queue.
- Pick your speed. Talks and interviews at 1.25× or 1.5× fit more into a run. How to change speed.
During the workout
Start your workout in the Workout app, then open TubeWrist and press play. In audio-only mode, playback continues with your wrist down. Pause, skip 15 seconds, and scrub from Now Playing on the watch face, the Smart Stack, or your AirPods, without opening the app.
On the treadmill or bike
If you can see your wrist, switch Audio Only off and turn on Landscape Video for a bigger picture.
