Video won't play on Apple Watch? Try these fixes

Updated 23 October 2026

Work through these in order. Most playback problems clear at step 2 or 3.

1. Check the connection

The watch streams everything, so it needs a working connection: a Wi-Fi network it has joined, mobile data on a cellular model, or a nearby iPhone. If search results don't load either, the connection is the problem. Try another network, or turn Airplane Mode on and off in Control Center.

2. Sign in with Google

Some videos ask you to sign in or prove you're not a robot, especially on shared or public networks. In TubeWrist, open Settings ▸ Account ▸ Sign in with Google. It's optional, and it clears most "can't play" errors. How sign-in works.

3. Try Audio Only

Settings ▸ Playback ▸ Audio Only fetches the video a different way. If audio plays but video doesn't, keep it on for now and tell us.

4. Tap Retry

If the player shows an error, tap Retry. A temporary hiccup on the video service's side often clears on the second try.

5. Update TubeWrist

Video services change how they deliver video from time to time, and that can break playback for everyone at once. Fixes arrive as app updates, so check the App Store on your iPhone or watch.

6. Restart the watch

Hold the side button, tap the power button, and slide to turn it off. Then turn it back on.

Plays, but no sound?

That's a different issue: why Apple Watch videos have no sound.

Questions

Why won't videos play on my Apple Watch?

Usually it's the connection, a video that asks you to sign in, or a change on the video service's side. Check Wi-Fi or cellular, sign in with Google in TubeWrist's Settings, try Audio Only, then update the app.

Why does a video ask me to prove I'm not a robot?

Some videos limit signed-out playback, especially on shared networks. TubeWrist's optional Sign in with Google, under Settings ▸ Account, clears it.
